Description

The Congress in Action Workbook, written with the support of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Zero Textbook Cost Program and Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Open Education Resources Initiative, gives you the opportunity to dive into Congress during your introductory course on American government and politics. This earlier exploration of Congress will better prepare you for junior, senior, and graduate level courses on Congress and American politics. By situating you in Congress during your introductory course on American government and politics, you sooner can begin to acquire the knowledge, hone the skills, and exercise the abilities that are essential to our representative democracy.

The Congress in Action Workbook consists of Readings and a Canvas Module that contains the following: Formative Quiz, Discussion of Public Problems and Congressional Committees, Congressional Research Roundtable, Congressional Majority Roundtable, Congressional Minority Roundtable, My Congress in Action Presentation, Share-Pair-Think Discussion, and My Reflection.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recall features of Congress, such as organization, leaders, and committees.
  2. Understand how Congress addresses a public problem of your choice.
  3. Analyze your public problem from a Congressional Research, Congressional Majority, and Congressional Minority perspectives.
  4. Create, share, and discuss your Congress in Action presentation.
